Zazegaa Designs by Hillary Kempenich
Where Anishinaabe Aesthetics Meet Everyday Living
Zazegaa Designs is a heartfelt extension of my creative journey—bringing together a lifetime of skill, cultural knowledge, and design rooted in my identity as an Anishinaabe artist with the influences of my intertribal heritage. While much of my public work has centered around painting and installation, the art of making—clothing, regalia, jewelry, and even furniture—has always lived in our home, lovingly nicknamed as Kempenich Studios.
After years of quietly creating for myself and my family, I’m excited to share these offerings with you. Zazegaa Designs was born from a desire to see clothing, accessories, and home goods that reflect my cultural aesthetic—one shaped by tradition, community, and innovation.
Currently through Kempenich Studios on Etsy or www.ZazegaaDesigns.com you'll find original designs that celebrate story, spirit, and beauty—available as wearable art, printed textiles, and goods for the home. From time to time, you’ll also see special collaborations or pieces created by members of my family, as our studio continues to be a shared space of creation and connection.
I was thrilled to launch new earring designs December of 2020, the website is updated quarterly with smaller items. To invest in original paintings or to inquire about commissions, please contact Hillary Kempenich directly via email at [email protected].
Thank you for supporting Indigenous art, handmade work, and my continued growth within the creative sector. Your support allows me to share my vision in new ways and uplift the cultural legacy that inspires it.
